We learn a lot of things in math during the 5th grade year. Math is a subject that builds on what has been previously taught. Teachers refer to this as spiraling. Each content area in Math gets more complex and builds on itself as students go through each year. If students haven't mastered something within an area, it can be harder and confusing to learn any new information that piggy-backs onto what was previously taught. I want my students to learn and grow with their different skills and personalities throughout this year. If any of my students have not mastered a particular area, I will do everything I can to help them with it. Below are the content areas that we cover in math for the 5th grade year.
