We have a little class economy in our classroom. Students can earn & spend money, pay off fines and even work through our Class Jobs. They are getting a little taste of what life is like with the end goal of teaching responsibility and accountability throughout the year. Our economy is deeply tied into our behaviors at school and in the classroom.
Earnings
Based on their behavior, students will get a paycheck each week. Students can earn money through good behavior such as:

"Caught Being Good"

Be on Time to School
Expenses
Students can cash out their paychecks for class money--or credits--at our Warburton Bank. They can pay off fines, withdraw and deposit cash within their bank accounts. Students can also purchase new school supplies and other goodies at our Class Store every other week. I also have my students pay rent each month. They have to rent their chair and their desk as throughout the year, they do not personally own either one of them.
Fines
Just like in real life, students have to pay fines (using class money) due to misbehavior and lack of preparedness. Fines can be for the following reasons:
