Our talented art teacher is helping our 5th grade classes learn to do batiking. Woot! To do that I am looking for big cardboard boxes or sheets of cardboard that can be cut into 9" x 12" pieces. We'll need a whole class set. If you have any cardboard boxes that you are willing to donate, please bring them in sometime next week. It would be gladly appreciated!

This week (maybe next, depending on SAGE testing), we will be having a mock event demonstrating the random taxes King George proclaimed on the American Colonists before the Revolutionary War and how they felt about it. Students can buy and sell items (using class money) from/to other students in our class at a Colonial Market. Whatever they decide to sell has to be appropriate for that time period (For example: chickens, candles, nails, wood (popsicle sticks), etc.)---No guns!). They can make their items or buy it (super cheap) from the store.
February 14th is Valentine's Day! In the afternoon, we will be having our party. If students want to make their own valentine box, they are welcome to. If they do not want to, a can will be provided for them that they can decorate sometime in the coming weeks. Should be fun!!! February 13-16th is our Parent Teacher Conferences for this trimester. Students will be presenting to their parents where they are at with what we are learning. Yay! It will be good to see what students are learning and their opinions about what they've learned. We are back in business with the new year! Mrs. Warburton gave us hermit crabs for Christmas! Their names are Digger and Tamatoa. Digger loves to dig. Tamatoa loves to hang out by the sea sponge and is really friendly. Thanks Mrs. Warburton! Can't believe the year is halfway over! I love every second I get to spend with my class. They are truly wonderful kids who have a wonderful aspiration for learning new things. I'm so grateful to be a part of their lives this year. I want to apologize for keeping this website updated. A lot occurs each week and it can easily get on the back burner if I'm not careful. My New Years Resolution is to be better at keeping up on our great website! I also want to send a HUGE shout out to all of our wonderful parents that have helped with our class parties! They have been so much fun and an enjoyable experience for our class! We love all that you've done for us! Our 2 friends are right next to their yellow food dish
Can you believe that Christmas is only 12 days away!!! Hope all of your shopping is done. This week we'll be making our Borax crystal ornaments and we've been trying to convince Santa to make a new suit of our own design. Maybe he'll make one of our classmate's unique designs, who knows!!! If you haven't brought in a jar yet, please do so, so everyone can participate. We are holding a Secret Santa and will share our gifts next Monday. Students can choose to make their gift or spend up to $5 on their special friend. Until the gift exchange, students can show courtesy and acts of kindness toward their Secret Santa.
Next week is our movie with most of the school. If I don't have a signed permission slip for each student, that student can't go...sorry folks! Believe it or not, next month is crazy busy. We have SAGE testing, Parent Teacher Conferences, our Writing Benchmark for the trimester and so much more. **SAGE testing will start when we get back from our break.*** Last week we said goodbye to our wonderful student teacher Mrs. Johnson. We wish her luck with her future endeavors and hope to see her soon. (She must just teach at the middle school next year) We are having so much in 5th grade! I want to make a huge shout out to my students' parents! Seriously, you're kids are amazing and I am so lucky to get to work with them each and every day! I have been so fortunate with the class .
We were asked to bring in different materials that were recycable or reusable for an art project. Each table got to design what it could look like. Our class voted on the Jolly Roger Flag as we are pirates! We each got to put a part of it together and then Mrs. Warburton sprayed the whole thing gold. Check it out! We think you can click on the picture to make it bigger.
